Located near the northern border of the March of Treviso, Cison di Valmarino boasts a wealth of historical and artistic attractions: the archpriest’s church of Santa Maria Assunta (which has a double façade and is home to works by Francesco Casagrande and Egidio Dall’Oglio), numerous shrines (capitals), the Brandolini/Colomban Castle, the Temple of the Madonna delle Grazie, the Vintage Radio Museum in the historical La Loggia building in the old town centre, the Tovena parish church with its priceless Callido organ, the brand new Religious Art Museum (also in Tovena), and the “100-Day Road” that takes you very quickly from the valley bottom to the San Boldo Pass (more than 700 m above sea level). The latter looks out over the Valbelluna and the charming village of Rolle, which is protected by the Italian National Trust (FAI) and has been nominated for the UNESCO World Heritage List. The famous poet Andrea Zanzotto was very fond of Rolle and he called it “a postcard sent by the gods”.

The unblemished greenery of the Ruio Park is just waiting to be discovered, as are the Loff Refuge above the “Bosco delle Penne Mozze” (“Wood of the Broken Feathers”, which contains stelae by Simon Benetton), the ancient wash tubs by the Rosada rivulet, the “Grotta del Ciclamino” (“Cyclamen Cave”), and the numerous trails for families and paths of various levels of difficulty, such as the ancient Via Maestra and the Vie dell’Acqua, which run alongside waterways.

There is exceptional food and wine on offer: spit roasts, deli meats, cheeses, mushrooms and polenta are marvellously complemented by the outstanding DOCG Prosecco and the area’s renowned red wines.

In addition, Cison di Valmarino can offer entertainment all year round, with musical concerts, plays, puppet shows, art exhibitions and high-profile exhibitions such as “Artigianato Vivo” (which showcases ancient trades and timeless artisan skills every year), “Stelle di Natale” (featuring Christmas creations), the “Secolare Fiera Franca dei Santi Simone e Giuda” in Tovena (which dates back centuries and is one of the very oldest fairs/markets around), and the outdoor exhibition of approximately 70 Nativity scenes in the narrow streets of the wonderfully well preserved village of Mura.

A visit to Cison di Valmarino is a pleasantly surprising and truly spellbinding experience.
